How does Ventile work?

As the story goes, Ventile works by the cotton fibres swelling up and making it waterproof. This means the fabric gets wet, and when wet no more water will pass through. A wet jacket is a wet jacket and a wet jacket is not very pleasant, even though there may be no more water coming through once it’s wet.

Where is Ventile made?

Ventile L24 is a high grade cotton fabric which is spun, twisted, woven and dyed/finished in Switzerland following the highest quality standards. The yarns are made of purely extra long staple fibres (only 2% of world crop).

What is cotton Ventile?

Ventile® is a completely natural fabric made from cotton. Ventile® fabrics are 100% cotton, utilising the finest, long staple fibres, only found in the top 2% of the world’s crop. After gentle spinning and doubling, the yarn is woven into a very dense weave, using up to 30% more yarn than conventional woven fabrics.

How do you clean a Ventile jacket?

Caring for Ventile

  1. Gently brush or sponge off any dirt.
  2. Machine wash one item at a time in warm water on a gentle cycle using pure liquid soap.
  3. Reshape the garment on a hanger and allow to dry naturally avoiding direct sunlight.
  4. Iron carefully on a warm setting – this reactivates the DWR treatment.

Can you dry clean Ventile?

Ventile® Fabric manufacturers recommend dry cleaning however, although effective, many Hilltrek Ventile® wearers may not want to expose their garment to the chemicals used in dry cleaning. If you wash by hand ensure all residue soap is removed from the garment and re-rinse if necessary.

Can you iron Ventile?

What is Ventile® action?

In extremely wet conditions a slight darkening and stiffening of fabric demonstrates the ‘Ventile® Action’ . The change in the physical appearance of the fabric indicates that a small amount of water has been absorbed to allow fibres to swell and thus stop the passage of water through the garment. Drying in normal conditions is fast.

Does Ventile® have eyelets or vents in the jacket?

As the fabric allows ventilation better than synthetic performance fabrics, eyelets or vents are unnecessary. However, in extremely vigorous conditions, condensation may be produced under a jacket. Ventile® does not pretend to change physiological responses.
