JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas — The upcoming 20OT03 Officer Training School selection board scheduled for September 14-18, 2020, has been cancelled.
Is there a GPA requirement for Air Force OTS?
It is 3.0 for non-rated positions, and 2.5 for the rated positions. It may be waiver able. A college GPA of 3.0 or higher is required. The AF is looking for technical degrees and other areas of need.
Do you get paid in OTS?
The day you start OTS you will be a Staff Sergeant, which is pay grade E-5. The day you commission you will be separated as a Staff Sergeant and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, O-1. The 2017 base pay for an O-1, 2 or less TIS is: $3,034.80 per month (taxable).
Can you fail OTS?
While OTS is not an easy course, it is something I believe everyone can complete if you set your mind to it. There is no excuse for a PT failure at OTS. All who are or hope to be selected for OTS should be scoring well into the 90’s for your PT test.

- Be a citizen of the United States.
- Take the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test.
- Pass the Air Force physical fitness test.
- Score well on the SAT or ACT.
- Have at least 90 college credits (if currently enlisted)
- Be at least 18 years old and less than 35.
How is Afoqt graded?
AFOQT Scores Explained Upon completion of the test, you will be given a number (1-99) for each of the 5 sections. This number represents the percentile in which you ranked. So, if you did better than 99% of the other test takers, then you would receive a 99%. If you were average, then you’ll get a 50th percentile.
Can the Afoqt be waived?
They will need to obtain an authorization for a waiver from the Air Force Personnel Center to take the test a third time. Candidates can request one via email at [email protected] or by calling 210-565-4221. If they meet all the criteria, they will receive a waiver to take the test after 150 days.
Is being an officer harder than enlisted?
Yes. The standards to become an Officer are much more strict. You must have a college degree to commission. Many earn their commission and degree concurrently while in ROTC or one of the service academies.
