Can you use worm farm worms for fishing?
Something I often get asked about is putting bait worms (africans or euros) in small plastic farms commonly used for “normal” composting worms. If you are just looking to keep worms alive to feed your pet or to go fishing over a few weeks, the worms will last for 4 to 8 weeks in a simple bait bucket.
How long do bait worms live?
A 32-ounce container with about 1-2 dozen worms and filled with moist compost should keep the worms healthy and active for about three weeks. Store them out of direct sunlight at a temperature between 50 and 85 degrees. These special “crawlers” will actually thrive at these warm temperatures.
How fast do worms reproduce?
Worms are ready to breed once they mature from 50 to 90 days. Earthworms are hermaphrodites; they can be male or female (a great advantage!). They can perform both male and female functions and mate every 7 to 10 days. The mating process takes around 24 hours.
Are nightcrawlers good bait?
The truth is though, nightcrawlers are one of the deadliest trolling baits available – on many species like walleyes, bass, trout, and even big crappies. At their simplest, crawler harnesses are lengths of monofilament with a spinner blade or two threaded on, then a hook.
Will salt water fish eat worms?
Worms are present in saltwater and can make a good bait at times, but they are not the typical worm found in your yard. During a worm hatch, fishing worms will make the most sense, but since this is not normal conditions, other baits tend to work better.
What do you feed nightcrawlers for fishing?
The worms will feed on kitchen scraps. However, do not give them anything oily, any dairy products, nor any meat. These foods will make the bin rancid and attract vermin. Also, acidic foods such as tomatoes, citrus, and pineapple should be avoided.

Very Fast Reproduction Rate African Nightcrawlers produce approximately 2-3 cocoons per week with 2-3 babies per cocoon averaging out to about 6-7 worms per week.
Do worms need air holes?
Like people, worms need air to live so be sure to have your bin sufficiently ventilated. Some people also prefer to drill about 10 holes (1/4- to 1/2-inch each) in the bottom for aeration and drainage. A plastic bin may need more drainage — if contents get too wet, drill more holes.
How often should you change worm bedding?
After worms are added, bedding should be kept moist but not soggy and the top 6 to 8 inches turned every 7 to 10 days to keep it loose. About every 6 to 9 months the old bedding should be replaced with properly prepared new bedding. To change bedding, remove the top 5 or 6 inches (where most of the worms are).
