How to get to Forney Ridge trail?

To reach the trailhead, travel down Clingmans Dome Road until you reach the parking area. Between the water fountain and the path to the lookout tower, you’ll find the access trail. It’s an uneven trail starting out and you’ll pass some large rocks before taking a left and passing the Clingmans Dome Bypass Trail.

The half-mile trail to the summit of Clingmans Dome is paved, but very steep. During the short hike, you will gain 332 feet, which makes the climb gradient almost 13%! The Clingmans Dome hike does feature several benches along the way if you need to catch your breath during the ascent.

Why is Cades Cove closed?

A full closure is necessary to allow logistical movement of trucks and paving equipment along the narrow, one-way road. In addition, current roadwork occurring in Cades Cove along Forge Creek Road has been extended. Forge Creek Road has been closed to all use since November 2, 2020, to replace five bridges.
